Q. Am I too old to start?
A. There is a common misconception that you have to have started as a kid to take martial arts lessons. That is simply not true. We’ve had adult men and women from all walks of life and age come through our doors to train and earn their black belt. If this is something you really want to learn, there is nothing stopping you but you. Our first black belt was 50 years old when he started. If he can do it, so can you!

CLASSES
Q. What martial art do you teach?
A. We teach the martial art self-defense system of KENPO.
Q. What are classes typically like?
A. Each class is structured around the skill level of the participants.
In the beginning class, we focus on making the transition as smooth as possible as most students have no previous martial arts experience. Several black belt instructors and assistant instructors are there to help make sure everyone gets the time and attention they need so everyone gets answers to their questions.
The intermediate and advanced classes are also structured towards the more advanced skill level of the students and progressively gets more challenging. At these levels, we get into more about the finer points of the system and work on more advanced principles, concepts, and applications.
Each class is one hour long and follows the basic outline below:
- Stretching and warm ups (10-15 minutes)
- Basics and drills (15-30 minutes)
- Forms and sets (20-30 minutes)
- Techniques and freestyle (30-40 minutes)
Each class is kept at a good pace and we pause as necessary to answer questions – especially in the beginning class. This approach makes for a good workout for both the mind and body. We balance working new material and refining material learned in earlier belt levels. You will definitely get a great workout in each and every class!
Q. What type of training atmosphere can I expect?
A. We have a lot of fun yet take our training seriously. Our instructors are all approachable, easy to talk to and are here to help you get the most out of your training. You’ll never feel like a number and we hold nothing back from our members. While our classes are taught in a group setting, you will always get the time and attention you need due to our low instructor to student ratios. We break out into even smaller groups each class to focus on different aspects so you can get more individualized attention to more thoroughly learn and progress.
Q. How safe are your classes?
A. We take every precaution to help ensure your safety. Every class is supervised and taught by a qualified black belt instructor and everything is taught step-by-step in a controlled environment. We do not tolerate heavy-handed students, or bad attitudes or egos whatsoever.
Q. Do I need to have coordination, balance and flexibility to join?
A. These attributes develop over time and are not required to get started. We will never ask you to kick over your head, do the splits or do any back flips. We promise!
Q. What are the benefits of taking your martial arts classes?
A. Most of our students began taking martial arts to either get into shape or to learn effective self-defense. However, there are a lot more benefits that bring great value to our classes including:
- Increased self-confidence and self discipline
- Improved flexibility, coordination, balance and endurance
- Improved mental clarity and concentration
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Ability to face adversity with a greater sense of calm
- And more!
What is your class schedule?
A. We have a wide range of programs that meet throughout the week. Contact us to learn more.
COSTS
Q. How much do lessons cost?
A. If you value a focused martial arts program exclusively for adults, that limits its class sizes where you can receive more personal attention, and you want to have access to multiple black belts in each class to more thoroughly learn the martial arts, then we’re likely a good fit for you!
The cost of training is greatly dependent on which program you choose and how often you plan to come to class. After you take our trial program, we will be happy to go over all the rates and associated programs. There is a nominal membership fee and all colored belt tests (yellow through green belt) are 100% free which saves you hundreds each year.
Q. Do you require contracts?
A. No. We give you the freedom to train here free from any long term contract and offer month to month training options. All we ask is 30-days written notice if you can no longer train here for any reason.
Q. Do you offer any discounts?
A. Yes we do. We offer military, law enforcement and student discounts that can save you up to 25%.
Q. Do you offer a money back guarantee?
A. The best way we know of is to take us for a no-obligation test drive. Our trial programs come with a 30-day money back guarantee so you’re never out anything if you decide it’s not right for you. We offer these classes so you can experience first hand all the benefits our program provides. If you decide for any reason we’re not a good fit, we part friends and you can get all your money back. No strings attached!
GETTING STARTED
Q. Who is your ideal member?
A. We’re looking for the right fit and aren’t looking to jam as many bodies into our classes as possible. That’s why we offer a trial program to make sure we both feel it’s a good fit, first, before accepting anyone into our limited class sizes. Ultimately, we’re looking for good natured people who really want to be here, can train regularly, will give it their best effort, will remain humble, have no criminal records and are always ready to learn.
Q. Do you have any openings?
A. Because we limit our classes to keep our instructor to student ratios low, we often have a waiting list. To learn more about when we have openings in our martial arts program exclusively for adults, sign up to receive our email alerts in the right hand column at the top of the page.
