I just wanted to say congratulations to Rex Stratton on his recent promotion to 1st degree brown belt.

Rex was a blue belt transplant student from one of my peers, Mr. Jim Clark, also a Paul Mills black belt. When Mr. Clark moved from Ogden, Utah to Oregon, Rex made the decision and commitment to travel to our studio in Salt Lake City, Utah to train - traveling more than 80 miles round trip for each lesson. He’s been making that trip twice a week for over a year now.

What’s interesting is that when Rex first went to Mr. Clark, he was already a 2nd degree brown belt in American Kenpo under his former instructor, but asked to start over and go back through all of the AKKI belt ranks until he had earned his rank back. When the time was right, he wanted his instructor to award him his original brown belt.

Fortunately, I was able to get his brown belt back from Mr. Clark so that it could presented to him at his promotion. I was honored to be the one to give it back to him. Congratulation Rex! Thank you for making the long journeys down here to train. It says a lot about your dedication to the art.

First, happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed your holiday break.

Second, our black belt team met over the holiday break and has come up with some really cool plans for 2007. Our team will be presenting these new ideas and ways to train over the coming months so you won’t want to miss any classes!

Third, you’ll notice that the website was just updated (the blog will be updated to reflect the new design shortly) for the new year. We added the free martial arts guide for adults and will continue to offer the one free week of martial arts arts lessons until classes are full. (Remember, we only have a few spots left so tell your friends and family). We’re also going to be adding some other really cool things to it within the next few months that will be of great value to our site visitors. All I can say is keep your eyes peeled as we continue to lead the pack in Salt Lake City Utah Martial arts website innovations!

Fourth, classes resume tonight at 7pm. See you then!
